Melted Fat is the quiet bottleneck of the game: one Distillation Cube recipe unlocks twelve others, and it is an ingredient in things you would not connect to fat at all — ink, polished stone, incense and polished bronze.

How do you make melted fat?
Distillation Cube, two routes: 1× Fat + 2× Clay Plate + 20× Fuel (6 ticks) or 3× Seed oil + 2× Clay Plate + 20× Fuel (8 ticks). Fat comes off animals and corpses, Seed oil off the Millstone — the Fat route is cheaper per unit.
What do you need melted fat for?
Twelve recipes: Oiled Plank, Oiled Beam, Polished Stone, Polished Marble, Polished Bronze, Simple and Fancy Incense, Ink, Solution and Injection for Corpses, Lacquer and Paint. The cube also needs the Alchemy, Distillation research before it runs at all.
Do you need fuel for every batch?
Yes — 20 Fuel per melt, which is the real cost. Fuel comes from the firewood chain, so the cube is effectively a wood-fuel sink in the early game.
