Graveyard Keeper 2 golden nuggets & gems

Golden nuggets are not a craft in the demo — they are a probabilistic by-product of the sluice box, and gems are an extra drop from copper veins once the Miner perk is in. This page keeps the two measured numbers: about 40% at the sluice box, 20–25% for gems, plus why the nugget line cannot be handed to zombies.

Golden nuggets come from two places, neither direct

The video sets the scope first: golden nuggets are tied to two places — the sluice box and the formulation bench — and at the sluice box it is not direct crafting, because a perk has to be unlocked first.

the sluice box has exactly one recipe (Tin → Tin + Golden nugget, 5 ticks), so the nugget is a by-product of that recipe rather than a recipe of its own.

    • Two sources: sluice box, formulation bench
    • Sluice box needs a perk first
    • one recipe at that station

    Unlock Miner, then Gold Digger

In the mechanical branch of the inspiration tree you must take Miner before Gold Digger — the second is locked behind the first.

The perk text says gold starts appearing when sifting sand, which is exactly what the test confirms. Both the Miner and Gold Digger perks exist in the perk data in the game’s data.

    • Mechanical branch: Miner → Gold Digger
    • Gold Digger locked behind Miner
    • Both perks exist in the game data

The test: 50 crafts in a row

The video queues 50 crafts at the sluice box and empties the inventory so the before/after is clean. The box also produces tin, so the nugget column is what matters.

It also runs a control: putting zombies on the sluice box to see whether they produce nuggets too.

    • Queue 50 crafts
    • The box also yields tin
    • Zombies tested as a control
  4. 1:40–2:33 · video

    Result: 21 nuggets from 50, about 40%

Fifty crafts produced 21 nuggets — roughly 40% — and the video’s summary is “run it 100 times and you will get around 40”.

So the nugget is a per-craft roll at about two in five, not a guaranteed by-product: bulk crafting is the only way to collect them.

    • 50 crafts → 21 nuggets
    • ≈40% per craft
    • 100 crafts ≈ 40 nuggets
  5. 1:40–2:53 · video

Zombies produce none: this line is manual

The control is unambiguous: the zombies ran the box for more than a hundred attempts and produced nothing. The video’s conclusion is that they simply do not make nuggets.

That makes the sluice box one of the few lines you cannot automate — if you want nuggets, you stand there and press it yourself.

    • Zombies: 100+ attempts, zero nuggets
    • The sluice box cannot be automated
    • Nuggets are a manual grind

The same branch also pays gems

The perk line has a second payoff: with Miner taken, mining copper veins starts dropping gems.

The video also notes that copper nuggets feed bronze ingots, so a copper vein serves two needs at once.

    • Miner makes veins drop gems
    • Copper nuggets → bronze ingots
    • One vein, two payoffs
  7. 3:20–4:47 · video

Gem test: 8 from 33 cycles, about 24%

To measure the drop rate the video empties the inventory and mines a copper vein with a full energy bar: one full cycle is three hits = 3 energy, so 100 energy buys 33 cycles.

    Thirty-three cycles produced 8 gems — 8 ÷ 33 ≈ 24%, and the video’s stated expectation is “20 to 25%, so about one in four or five”.

    • One cycle = 3 hits = 3 energy
    • 33 cycles → 8 gems
    • Expect 20–25%
  8. 4:47–5:07 · video

Putting the two numbers to work

Side by side the planning is simple: nuggets ≈ 40% per craft and cannot be delegated; gems ≈ 20–25% per copper nugget.

So for nuggets the correct play is “take the perks, stock the material, sit down and craft”; for gems it is “mine copper veins whenever energy is full”.

    • Nuggets: manual, 40%
    • Gems: mining, 20–25%
    • Both share one perk line

Where this comes from

Recreational Suffering — golden nuggets and gems

The source video (published during the demo window). Its English captions were read in full (136 cues) and checked cue by cue.

the Sluice Box has exactly one recipe in the game’s recipe table (Tin → Tin + Golden nugget, 5 ticks), the nugget itself is in the item list, and both perks — Miner and Gold Digger — exist in the game data. The drop rates (40%, 20–25%) are the video’s measurements; the game’s data carry no probability fields.
