Graveyard Keeper 2 talents & inspirations

Graveyard Keeper 2’s inspirations and talents are a proficiency system and a talent system grown together: you train whatever you do — planting trains farming, autopsies train anatomy — and the points that earns unlock and improve the character’s own abilities. This page lists every branch’s inspiration tracks with their unlock conditions, and every tree node with its cost and prerequisite.

What the panel is

The Inspirations tab in the character window has two layers: the inspirations, which count what you have done (proficiency), and the talent tree, where points buy abilities (talent). The two are tied to the same branch — points earned in farming are spent in the farming tree.

The character window’s Inspirations tab: the five branch icons with their point counts on top, the inspiration list on the left — each card naming what to do, its progress and its Faith price — and the perk tree on the right
The character window with the Inspirations tab open: the inspiration list on the left and the perk tree on the right — the two layers this page describes.

Growth is split across five branches: Building, Smithing, Farming, Theology and Anatomy. A tree carries three kinds of node: perks, which change the rules of what you do (Farming’s Farmer, Green Thumb and Seed Master, for instance), mastery nodes, which raise that branch’s proficiency outright, and a set of zombie nodes, which are the abilities your zombie workers get.

How it advances: do the thing, earn the points

There is one rule: an inspiration counts only the act it names. To train Farming, do farming things — plant, harvest, gather berries, dig out dry bushes; to train Anatomy, do autopsies. Every track keeps its own counter, and it moves only when that level’s goal is met, not on one number for the whole track.

  1. 1

    Proficiency: do the thing

The matching inspiration counts up, and every level carries its own goal.

  2. 2

Buy the level: it costs Faith

The price is in the table and it has to be Faith in your bag; a track is bought one level at a time.

  3. 3

    Talent: a level-up pays 1 point

The purchase pays experience into the branch, and raising it a level hands you 1 talent point for that branch’s tree.

The full order and its numbers (Faith prices, the experience curve, each level’s goal) are at the end of the page, under “How the loop runs, in order”.

What the points buy

A talent point is spent in that same branch’s tree: ordinary nodes cost 1 point each, and the perk or mastery you buy stays on the character. The zombie nodes beside them cost no talent points — they are unlocked with red, green or blue technology points, and they are what your zombie workers can do. Each branch below carries its tree diagram and its table, with every node’s cost, prerequisite and effect text.

Faith: the resource that buys an inspiration level

Faith is an item in your bag (one slot holds 999). When an inspiration reaches its goal, the price the panel asks for is Faith rather than a talent point — paying it is what pays experience into the branch, and the talent point comes separately when the branch levels up.

The numbers: of 382 inspiration levels, 324 cost Faith and 58 are free, a single level runs from 1 to 250, and buying every level in the game would take 4,335 Faith.

The same resource has other sinks in the data, so Faith is not only the talent system’s currency:

  • Study Table: studying an item burns Faith as its fuel.
  • Teleport milestones: unlocking one costs 1–8 Faith (there are 10 of them).
  • Recipes: Carved Stone (1, Stonemason's Workbench), Carved Marble (1, Stonemason's Workbench), Story (3, Writing Desk), Bronze Zombie Collar (3, Jewelry Table), Golden Zombie Collar (5, Jewelry Table), Steel Zombie Collar (10, Jewelry Table), Charged hypno-device (1, Formulation Bench).
  • Quests: Fighting Spirit Required (3) and Goddess in the Swamp (100), both of which take the Faith.

Where it comes from: the weekly sermon is the main source, and its payout follows attendance and your graveyard level. The sermon’s own steps, prerequisites and gratitude prep are on the faith and sermons page.

Where the numbers come from: the game’s price field on every inspiration level, the Study Table’s fuel field, the teleport milestones’ start items, and the recipes and quests that consume Faith. The sermon’s payout is a video measurement, not a data value.

The five branches

The interface shows the branches as five coloured icons and never names them; the names below are written after each icon’s own asset name. Every branch has its own inspirations and its own tree, and the table counts both.

Inspirations: every track, by branch

“How to progress” carries two lines: the one marked “In-game text” is the wording the game itself prints under the name (muted and smaller), and below it sits this site’s instruction — what to do to move that counter, naming a workstation only where the game’s data has one. Two inspirations ship no wording, so those cells show only our line. The per-level goals, Faith prices and experience stay in the game’s data and are not spread out in this table yet.

The talent tree: every node, by branch

The “needs” column points at row numbers in the same table: the game draws the tree as a grid and several mastery nodes share one label, so a label alone would not say which node a prerequisite is. The effect text is the game’s own.

Building

The grid above is the game’s own: one square per node and the lines are prerequisites. Hovering or focusing a square shows its name, talent-point cost and effect, and clicking it jumps to that row in the table below.

Frequently asked questions

What is an inspiration, and how does it relate to talent points?
An inspiration is a counter for something you do, and every level of it has its own goal (the per-level numbers live in the game’s data). Reaching the goal lets you buy that level with Faith, and buying it pays talent experience into that branch; enough experience raises the branch a level and hands you 1 talent point. This page carries 73 inspirations, 382 levels in all.
What do the tree nodes cost?
Ordinary nodes cost talent points, 1 each — the per-branch tables list them. The same trees also carry zombie nodes, which cost no talent points at all and are unlocked with technology points instead. 175 nodes in total, 85 of them zombie nodes.
Why do the five branches have no names in the game?
The interface shows five coloured icons and nothing else; the word for each branch survives only in the icon’s asset name. The names used here — Building, Farming, Smithing, Theology, Anatomy — are written after that word and are not strings the game displays.
Some inspirations are not visible at first?
The game’s data hangs unlock conditions on some of them: a technology, a quest, or an earlier inspiration has to come first. The last column of each branch’s inspiration table names those conditions.

How the loop runs, in order

  1. 1

    Do the thing

An inspiration counts only the act it names: felling trees, burying, picking pockets, studying items — each track has its own counter.

  2. 2

    Reach that level’s goal

Every level carries its own goal count (the tables below), not one number for the whole track.

  3. 3

    Buy the level with Faith

The price is in the table too, and it has to be Faith in your bag; a track is bought one level at a time.

  4. 4

    Buying pays talent experience

A purchase pays experience into that branch; Level 1 needs 2 experience, level 2 needs 3, level 3 needs 4, and every level after that needs 5. The game's table runs to level 30, and the curve is the same for all five branches.

  5. 5

    A level-up pays 1 talent point

Raising the branch a level hands you 1 talent point, spent in that branch’s tree.

  6. 6

Two kinds of node, two currencies

Ordinary nodes cost 1 talent point each; the zombie nodes beside them cost no talent points at all and are unlocked with red, green or blue technology points.
